Our dream is to reach for the Lord the country of Ecuador!.
Our ministry is established in the south and we are from the south part of the country of Ecuador, from the city of Cuenca where 95% of the population are very religious people enslaved in sin and sentenced to suffer eternal damnation without Christ. The other 5% are (acording to the Ecuadorian government) "protestants or evangelicals" among this 5% are included cults such as the Mormons, Jehova's Wittness, Seven Day Adventist and Pentecostal groups, so in reality over 98% of the people of Ecuador have not heard the Gospel. The need of the preaching of the true Gospel in Ecuador is great!
We are called and commissioned to do one thing: church planting. This is not just our call but our passion and heartbeat!
We have as our mission one commandment and one principle from God’s word :
(Matthew 28:19-20 , II Timothy 2:2)
In order to apply these commandment and principles in our ministry we have three major goals:
1. To reach Ecuadorians for Christ through personal evangelism
2. To train and equip the new believers for ministry
3. To establish Native Local Baptist Churches
1.Reaching Ecuadorians through personal evangelism:
Since I am an Ecuadorian and a “Cuencano” (from the city of Cuenca), we witness to people naturally almost every day. That is why God has put us on this Earth! God has given us tremendous opportunities to share His Word in Cuenca, Ecuador.
We have a unique rapport with people and have numerous doors open into Cuencano society; as my family has lived here for several generations many people know me, and the most important thing is that we don't have cultural barriors since I know my people and our culture and language. The opportunities are great!. And God has realized many of them, drawing unsaved people through our ministry (including my entire immediate family and some of my personal friends) to enter into a saving relationship with Himself!
We praise God for all He has accomplished for His Kingdom. And we know He will accomplish much more in the years and decades to come, should He tarry!
2.Training and equipping new believers for ministry
In our opinion, this is monumental to all aspects of ministry anywhere in the world. The Lord commanded us “to make disciples” not just believers according to Mathew 28:18-20. In discipleship the spiritual infant is nurtured along with the Word of God with his “discipler”. The goal is spiritual maturity and multiplication. We were heavily involved in this at La Fe Baptist Church and at Bet-El Baptist Church.
My Philosophy- God does not wish for me to do this ministry alone, He wants me to 1.) Train others (addition), who will 2.) Witness to others, 3.) Who will in turn train others to do the same (Multiplication) This principle is found in II Timothy 2:2. “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
We have this “formula” started at La Fe Baptist Church and Bet-El Baptist Church in Cuenca where we already have several men serving, studying and desiring to be the future spiritual leaders in our future congregations. I am excited to see what God has done and what He will do with the small band of spiritual warriors He is preparing for His Glory!
If I were to plant a church and lead it until I died, I would not be responding to the call which God has extended to me. I personally see in the Word of God the example of our Lord when He took a band of twelve men and trained them. One betrayed Him and the other eleven turned the world up side down!(Acts 17:6)
I am called to plant a church and to put national leadership in place at that church. When the aforementioned goal is accomplished, my job is to break off and start another work with the hopes and prayers that this men will turn up side down my country of Ecuador.
Once I was asked "what kind of church plant model or book do you follow Fernando?" My answer was and is "The apostle Paul" he said"Be ye followers of me, even as I also [am] of Christ" 1 Cor. 11:1 The apostle Paul started churches and he would seek for an individual that would continue his ministry in that church plant.
*An individual: I have been praying for years for a man to respond to God’s call for spiritual leadership at La Fe Baptist church and the Lord did answer that prayer. Little did we know that God was working on my younger brother’s life (Diego) for full time ministry. He (and his family) has begun his service as a Pastor in La Fe Baptist Church. The Lord has also other men with the same desire, a couple are studying already out side Ecuador for ministry. We need to return to continue training leaders in Cuenca.
*The whole Body: We are not training full time ministers exclusively! We believe that Christians are “Saved to Serve”. The Lord said to His disciples in John 1314,15 "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you" And we also believe that the Bible teaches that all Christians should be involved in some kind of local church ministry using their God given gifts. We want people to get involved in the work with us! And for that we have different programs established in La Fe Baptist Church and Bet-El Baptist Church.
We are constantly praying that God will raise up leadership for this work which He has started. And we will continue to train leaders from scratch as we start another church in the city of Cuenca. Please beseech the Lord with us that He might lead individuals into local church ministries in Cuenca.
3.The establishing of new native local Baptist churches
For a church plant to go anywhere, it needs strong leadership and direction. We are called to lead the church into 1.) Organization 2.) Ownership of property 3.) Establishment of leadership.
Organization: We have organized and established La Fe Baptist Church. This local church has its own membership, statutes, constitution and it is legally recognized by the Ecuadorian Government as an “Independent Baptist Church” Faith Baptist Church. We are currently working to get Bet-El legally recognized by the Ecuadorian Government.
At this point we are praying that the Lord will continue to work in the lives of the people we want to reach to start and organize another work in the city of Cuenca. We need your prayers and support.
Ownership of Property:
We believe that we should not leave a church until it is stable in all areas. One of the things we trust God will realize as we move on to a completely different church plant is the stability of having ownership of a meeting place. We praise the Lord for the way He provided for the property that La Fe Baptist Church has and Bet-El Baptist Church has now and we trust wholeheartedly that He will do it again as we launch into a new church plant effort.
“The people are the church, the church building is not!” is our theme. With this fundamental principle in mind we strive towards the goal of obtaining property. Ecuadorians and North Americans have sacrificed towards this vital need in the past and we trust we will partner again in the future. This is one of the main reasons that we have joined our missionary agency and we are looking for the partnership of sister churches that will help us in this endeavor. A good building and good infraestructure atracts people that are used to go to inmense and incredible Catholic buildings.
Establishment of leadership: God has placed us in Cuenca to be His instruments in raising up spiritual leadership for La Fe Baptist. We worked hard to acomplish the same at Bet-El Baptist Church. We trust and believe that the Lord will do it again and He will raise up more committed people for His Honor and Glory and to reach the city of Cuenca and in the long run the whole country of Ecuador. Please pray for mighty spiritual warriors to be raised by the Almighty King, for His Kingdom. This way we are establishing local native Ecuadorian Baptist Churches.
